These guidelines are designed to ensure a focused, respectful, and academically sound environment for all members of the Institute community. All registered students are required to read, understand, and adhere to these regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I. Academic Integrity &amp; Ethics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Maintaining academic honesty is paramount at PIOIL. Any violation will lead to strict disciplinary action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Plagiarism and Cheating<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Definition:<\/strong> Presenting the work, ideas, words, or data of another source as one&#8217;s own, without proper citation and attribution. This includes self-plagiarism (submitting the same work for multiple courses).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consequences:<\/strong> Any assignment, project, or thesis found to contain plagiarism will be subject to grading penalties, ranging from a zero grade on the assignment to expulsion from the program, as determined by the Academic Council.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Guidance:<\/strong> Students must properly use footnotes, endnotes, and bibliographies following the style guide prescribed by the department (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style or MLA).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Examination Misconduct<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Using unauthorized materials, electronic devices, or communication during examinations is strictly prohibited and constitutes <strong>Unfair Means (UFM)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students found engaging in UFM will face penalties as per the <strong>[Examination &amp; Evaluation Page]<\/strong>, which may include being debarred from the current and future exams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">II. Attendance and Leave Policy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Regular and timely attendance is compulsory for all students registered in coursework programs (M.A. and PGD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Minimum Requirement:<\/strong> Students must maintain a minimum of <strong>75% attendance<\/strong> in each individual course (theory and practical) to be eligible to sit for the End-Term Examinations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Medical Leave:<\/strong> Students seeking leave on medical grounds must submit a valid medical certificate from a registered practitioner to the Student Welfare Office within three days of returning to the Institute.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shortage of Attendance:<\/strong> Students with attendance between 65% and 75% may be conditionally allowed to appear for exams after paying a prescribed penalty fee. Students falling below 65% will be automatically <strong>debarred<\/strong> from the end-term examination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">III. Institute Code of Conduct<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All students are ambassadors of PIOIL and must conduct themselves with dignity and respect both on and off campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Respectful Behavior<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Treat all faculty, staff, fellow students, and visitors with courtesy and respect, regardless of gender, religion, caste, or background.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bullying, harassment (including sexual harassment), or discrimination in any form is strictly forbidden. Instances should be reported immediately to the <strong>Student Welfare Office<\/strong> or the <strong>Anti-Ragging\/Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Damage to Property<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students are responsible for the proper use of Institute property, including classrooms, library books, laboratory equipment, and hostel facilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any willful damage to property will result in disciplinary action and financial recovery of the damages from the concerned student(s).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Dress Code<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students are expected to dress appropriately and modestly, maintaining a level of formality consistent with the academic environment of the Institute.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IV. Use of Facilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Library and Archives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students must adhere to the rules specified by the Chief Librarian regarding borrowing limits, return dates, and conduct within the reading room and archival section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Handling of rare manuscripts and archival materials is strictly governed by the Preservation Officer&#8217;s instructions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. IT and Internet Usage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Institute IT resources (Wi-Fi, computer labs) must be used solely for academic and research purposes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The viewing or downloading of inappropriate or illegal content is prohibited.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disciplinary Action<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Failure to comply with any of the above guidelines may lead to the following disciplinary actions, depending on the severity of the offense:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Verbal or Written Warning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monetary Fine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suspension from the Institute for a specified period.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expulsion from the Institute and cancellation of registration.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\ud83c\udf93 Student Guidelines and Code of Conduct Welcome to the Punjab Institute of Oriental &amp; Indian Languages (PIOIL).
